Like so many who have settled here in the Flathead Valley, I come from afar, have lived many places and now truly feel at home. I spent many years moving about the country, always with painful homesick longing for my home in Maine. A place of unmatched beauty with hundreds of years of history, it is a nest that nurtures grounded, hardworking fishing families as well as cultured cosmopolitan world travelers and artists.

Arriving in the Flathead Valley, I was immediately taken by its beauty and quickly caught up in its endless opportunities for outdoor adventure. Discovering Bigfork, I found small-town living, uptown art and a sense of community. My painful longing for my birthplace ceased for the first time in 17 years, and I found myself HOME.

Are you new here and still finding all the wonderful things to do in your community? Have you lived here always and forgotten some of those precious pleasures that make this place your home? Please visit a few sites that I highly recommend for finding your fill on an empty day, and remembering all there is to enjoy in this wonderful place in which we live:

The Bigfork Chamber of Commerce has a terrific Events Calendar that will help you plan an evening or a weekend: Bigfork Chamber Events

Joyce Mitchell and Christie Sherman have compiled a superb list of their personal favorites in the area: Mitchell & Associates Favorites

The Flathead Beacon online also has an events calendar which includes events from around the Valley: Flathead Beacon Events

What are YOUR favorite activities in the area?

  • Thank you so much, Jana, for enjoying the “our favorites” entry. We had fun doing it and thought both the locals and the newcombers would find both humor and suggestions. We may have to revisit it periodically to update.

It has been such a pleasure working with you!
